ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT : AZERBAIJAN
AZERBAIJAN RURAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (2004 – 2006)

EWMI provided assistance critical to the successful implementation of the Rural Economic Development (RED) Program, implemented by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Azerbaijan. The program’s goal was to establish profitable and sustainable agricultural production and processing systems in order to improve food security, increase farmer incomes, and assist in the building of integrated rural market chains systems in nine targeted regions of Azerbaijan. Over 2,000 farmers from 91 Producer groups participated in the RED Program. Together with IRC, EWMI established nine demonstration farms incorporating dual-purpose greenhouses (seedling and vegetable production), nine agro-processing facilities, and trained over 40 agricultural extension agents on providing extension services to producers.
