MOLDOVA PRIVATE FARMERS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (PFAP) (2000 – 2005)

EWMI provided post-privatization assistance to private farmers and rural entrepreneurs in Moldova. Working with farmer cooperatives, producer associations and local community organizations, EWMI contributed to the success of private farmers and ensured that the transition to private farms resulted in sustainable economic growth. As a result, a network of institutions was established and strengthened to support private farmers and enterprises in rural communities throughout Moldova. PFAP efforts targeted rural organizations with numerous members, including family farms. EWMI fostered the development of an enabling legal environment for farmers and agribusiness. EWMI managed a complex grants program that reinforced the Program’s activities by maximizing their efficiency and achieving greater economic and social impact. EWMI provided critical assistance in the establishment of an Arbitration and Mediation Court and provided assistance in both arbitration of cases as well as court assistance in those instances that arbitration and mediation did not work.
