U.S. AMBASSADOR AND MINISTER OF JUSTICE PRESIDE OVER LAUNCH OF NEW MoJ INFORMATION SYSTEMS PROGRAM
Continuing its efforts to modernize the information management of the Ministry of Justice,
EWMI’s PRAJ 2 launched a new training program and began the transfer of computer equipment to support the Ministry’s new data systems. U.S. Ambassador Carol A. Rodley and Minister of Justice H.E. Ang Vong Vathana presided over the launch ceremony held on June 30th at the Ministry, where H.E. Vathana declared the intensive four-month training series “officially open” and Ambassador Rodley symbolically handed the Minister the first piece of computer equipment for the pilot systems.
Attended by Acting USAID Mission Director Reed Aeschliman, four Secretaries of State, and sixty staff and management from the Ministry, the ceremony was an opportunity for the Cambodian and American partners to gain a greater understanding of the new MoJ information systems. The MoJ Justice Documentation Training Program – which focuses on the new systems as well as general computer skills – will last through October, and will offer fifty hours of training to up to ninety Ministry staff. The pilot information systems are being developed through a partnership between the PRAJ 2 Justice Information Unit and the Ministry’s General Department of Research and Development in Judicial Administration. These new systems include: a Justice Statistics Database to better track court caseloads and clearance rates, an MoJ office Intranet system to allow electronic documentation and communication at the Ministry, and a Justice Statistics Webpage to increase public awareness about the work of the courts.
