EWMI AWARDED EC CONTRACT TO IMPLEMENT LAND AWARENESS CAMPAIGN IN CAMBODIA

EWMI was awarded a contract by the European Commission for their Economic and Social Relaunch of Northwest Provinces (ECOSORN) project to implement an information campaign that informs beneficiaries in target areas about land law and other land matters. This project will complement EWMI’s existing work on land rights and education initiatives in Cambodia. In cooperation with its local partner, Action IEC, EWMI will implement a series of 14 full-day ‘Road Show’ festivals, which are expected to reach as many as 168,000 Cambodians in target communities. These road shows will engage the entire community, and deliver land law information to all target groups through soap-opera style videos, a puppet show, a live theatre performance and quiz shows. The road shows will be complemented by distribution of more traditional public education materials – booklets, pamphlets and leaflets, and newspaper inserts on land law related issues, as well as radio programs. The project will provide a broader understanding of relevant land law issues and increased capacity of everyone in the target areas, including residents and local government officials. The tools developed and used during the road shows will also help bring sustainability to the project by increasing knowledge and capacity to speak about land law and raise awareness about the issues, which is expected to go well beyond the life of the program.
