CARL AARON JOINS EWMI TEAM AS DIRECTOR OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES

EWMI is pleased to welcome Carl Aaron as Director of Economic Development and Sustainability Initiatives. He has over 15 years experience working with national and local governments, as well as businesses and donor agencies, in over 30 countries, especially in Asia and Africa. His expertise covers foreign and domestic investment policy and promotion, pro-poor growth strategies, business environment improvement, international trade, corporate investment patterns, benchmarking programs and private sector employment strategies. His experience will complement and help expand the legal, financial and grass roots programs implemented worldwide by EWMI.

The Director of Economic Development and Sustainability Initiatives will expand the functional and geographical scope of our economic development work, and develop integrated governance and economic development products. In addition we are developing an expanded portfolio of sustainability initiatives covering corporate social responsibility (CSR) and business – society initiatives, as well as new initiatives building upon EWMI’s history of working with local communities and NGOs through training, grants and assertion of legal rights.

Carl has lived in Washington for 10 years, first working at the International Finance Corporation, subsequently in private development consulting. In 2007 he also co-founded a small foundation to support nomadic communities in the Himalayas. In his new role at EWMI – a not-for-profit 501(c)3 foundation – he will now combine pro-poor economic development work with an evolving passion for community development and corporate sustainability initiatives.
