EWMI ESTABLISHES INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IN KOSOVO
As part of its Kosovo Constitutional Justice Initiative, the East-West Management Institute (EWMI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the American University in Kosovo (AUK), establishing a platform of cooperation between both institutions to assist the Interim Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo.
The MoU provides a basis for AUK students to complete internship programs with the Interim Secretariat. “This internship will contribute to a better understanding of the functioning and role of the Constitutional Court and will allow students to disseminate the knowledge and experience gained during such internships to their fellow students. They will thereby foster a better understanding of rule of law and constitutional mechanisms for the protection of fundamental rights,” noted Dr. Christopher Hall, President of AUK.
The AUK will also donate computers to the Interim Secretariat as a modest contribution to the establishment of the most important judicial body in Kosovo, entrusted with the protection of the Constitution and fundamental human rights. The Constitutional Court of Kosovo, was formally established in January 2009. With its authority to review legislation and individual complaints of rights violations, the Court is the ultimate check on legislative and executive power in Kosovo and the final arbiter of the meaning of constitutional provisions enshrining human rights and freedoms.
