PRESIDENT OF KOSOVO CONSTITUTIONAL COURT MEETS WITH BRITISH AMBASSADOR AND DFID HEAD OF OFFICE IN KOSOVO
On March 18, 2010, EWMI facilitated an official meeting of the President of the Kosovo Constitutional Court, Prof. Dr. Enver Hasani, the British Ambassador to Kosovo, Mr. Andy Sparkes, and the Director of the Office of UK DFID in Kosovo, Mr. Robert Watt. The meeting focused on the functioning of the justice system, the corruption phenomenon in the judiciary, the organizational and functional structure of the Constitutional Court and its decision making process, as well as other matters relating to the Rule of Law in Kosovo.
The President of the Court, Mr. Hasani informed the official visitors about the challenges facing the Constitutional Court, as a new institution in Kosovo, and informed them that the Court has been approached by minority communities, including Serbs, which clearly demonstrates the impartiality and professionalism of the Constitutional Court. During the meeting, the President also expressed the Court’s deep appreciation for EWMI/UK DFID assistance, and in a subsequent press conference the President reiterated that without the assistance received from EWMI, the Court would not have been able to begin functioning properly. The British Ambassador expressed his thanks to EWMI for its excellent work in support of the Court and his great satisfaction with the Court’s functioning to date. At the press conference he encouraged the people of Kosovo to address the Court. The meeting received wide and positive media coverage.
