RULE OF LAW : RUSSIA
RUSSIAN-AMERICAN JUDICIAL PARTNERSHIP (RAJP) (2001 – 2004)

EWMI implemented a subcontract for the USAID-funded Russian-American Judicial Partnership II (RAJP II) to assist Russia in its efforts to create an efficient, impartial, knowledgeable, and transparent judiciary. The focus of the project was to support systematic sustainable mechanisms that ensure access to justice, promote judicial independence, and foster accountability throughout the judicial sector. Specifically, the Project focused on helping Russia develop an independent and fair judicial system by improving court administration and judicial training. The primary Russian counterparts were the Judicial Department and the Russian Academy of Justice, and collaboration with these institutions strengthened partnerships between Russian and U.S. organizations to improve Russian judicial training, selection, ethics, and discipline. The project also assisted Judicial Department staff and court administrators to improve caseload management and budgeting.
